GTA 6 pre-load date and file size
The pre-load date is confirmed. The install size has not been published.
Pre-load begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 launch. Rockstar Support states this for the digital editions.
The install size has not been announced. As of 24 September 2026, no figure appears on the Rockstar Store listing, the official site, Rockstar Support or either console storefront. Figures in circulation are estimates drawn from previous games.
What pre-loading does
Pre-loading downloads the game to your console ahead of release, in a locked state. When the game unlocks on November 19 there is no download to wait through.
It does not grant early access. No unlock time has been announced; see release timing.
The seven days between the twelfth and the nineteenth give the download room to finish in the background rather than on launch night.
The physical copy does not help
Rockstar states that the physical version contains a download code, not a disc. There is no disc in the box.
A boxed copy downloads the same full game. Rockstar says boxed copies become available from November 12, the same day pre-load opens, and that codes can be used as soon as they are received. Our editions guide covers the other consequences of the no-disc decision.
Clearing space without knowing the number
You cannot plan against a figure nobody has published, so plan against the shape of the problem instead.
Start clearing now, not on the eleventh. Deleting installed games is reversible, since console storage re-downloads. Work through what you have finished and remove it.
Clear more than you think you need. A day-one patch typically needs working room on top of the install itself.
Do it before the twelfth, not the nineteenth. A console with no free space on November 12 does not pre-load, and you find out on launch day.
If you are chronically short on space, an internal NVMe expansion is the fix rather than repeatedly deleting things. Check the speed requirements for your specific console first, since not every drive qualifies.
When Rockstar publishes an install size it will be added here and the updated date at the top will change.
