GTA 6 release date, platforms and price
The date is November 19, 2026. It has moved twice, and Rockstar announced both changes on its Newswire before the date each one replaced.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That date has been reaffirmed twice during 2026: once when pre-orders opened in June, and again in August alongside the first extended gameplay reveal.
How the date has changed
| When | What changed |
|---|---|
| December 2023 | Trailer 1 pointed at a 2025 window, with no specific day |
| May 2025 | First firm date set: May 26, 2026 |
| November 6, 2025 | Moved to November 19, 2026, Rockstar citing the time to finish the game to the level of polish it wants |
| June 25, 2026 | Pre-orders opened worldwide, November date held |
| August 27, 2026 | Extended Look released, November date held again |
Rockstar announced both changes on its own Newswire, in signed posts, before the date each one replaced. Every announced date, in order sets out what was said each time.
Platforms
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
No PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch version has been announced, and no PC release has been announced. Previous Rockstar titles have reached PC well after their console release. Rockstar has given no window for this one.
Price and editions
In the United States, the Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and selected retailers.
Pre-load begins at local midnight on November 12, a week before launch, according to Rockstar Support.
Boxed copies become available the same day. They contain a download code rather than a disc, so the download is the same size either way. Our editions guide covers what separates the two versions.
As of 24 September 2026, no install size or storage requirement appears on the Rockstar Store listing, the official site or Rockstar Support. Pre-load and file size covers clearing space without a figure to aim at.
An Extended Look
Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 6, 2026 and released it on August 27 — first as a Netflix premiere at 3pm ET, then on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the game's site at 9pm ET the same day.
Rockstar's description of it is short: footage "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5," showcasing "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet."
The video is on Rockstar's site and its YouTube channel.
What Rockstar has confirmed in writing about the game itself is brief: it is set in the state of Leonida, the central city is Vice City, and it follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through "a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state." See what Rockstar has stated about the map.
Planning around the date
Pre-load opens on the twelfth, and storage needs to be clear before then. Our launch day checklist covers the rest.
If you are chasing completion from hour one, our map is built to sit on your phone while you play. It opens empty on launch morning and fills as players report what they find.
